ZEOSLib 6.6.6 and ZEOSLib 7.0.0 have been released
Posted 31.12.2009, 14:28 by mdaems
Ankündigungen EDIT : Download link for 6.6.6 fixed.

Dear ZEOS Community,

At the end of the year we want to officially announce the release of the ZEOS DBO Library 6.6.6 - stable and ZEOS DBO Library 7.0.0 - alpha

The download links are the following ones:

These downloads are also available from our forum download section and from sourceforge.

6.6.6-stable is the maintenance release for the 6.6-stable series. Upgrades should just fix some existing bugs.

7.0.0-alpha is the first experimental release which should make zeoslib usable on Delphi 2009 and Delphi 2010. Support for Delphi versions older than Delphi 7 has been removed.

The full changelist for both versions is available as html and pdf and plain text.

With our best wishes for 2010!

Your ZEOSLib Development Team.

The next ZeosLib "generation" ... 7.x
Posted 13.09.2008, 02:04 by mdaems
Ankündigungen Dear ZeosLib Community,

on 8th of August we did the first step towards ZeosLibs future and released the next stable version 6.6.3. Now it's time to inform you about our future plans and some other fundamental things.

At first we want to let you know that we cut with the 6.x branch. The next release of ZeosLib is going to have the Version number 7 but until the first stable "7"-release we will have to do quite a lot of work. We especially think about a quite fundamental enhancement (not only concerning D2009): Unicode support.

But let's first take you to our current stable (6.6.3): The support for this version will not be dropped! This means that we are going to do our best to backport bugfixes that are done in ZeosLib 7 and maybe add new translations. Bugfixes will only be implemented on 6.6 when they are safe and non-intrusive! They are available from svn in /branches/6.6-patches. We are planning to release so called "patch packages" that will be named 6.6.n.-stable. Those patch packages will contain critical bug fixes, translations (as mentioned above) or new/modified package files for IDE changes.

Due to the Unicode problem with D2009 we will support D2009 in ZeosLib 7 because to implement this unicode feature has a too deep impact on the sources and we unfortunately had to decide not to fit 6.6.3 to unicode and D2009 but ZeosLib 7 will have it. We would have to care about two code bases and for this we don't have the manpower.

As we are already working on the next ZeosLib 7 there is one very, very
important thing to mention: Do not use trunk at the moment because the current version is only for developers, contributors doing very high quality patches and "very early adopters" of ZeosLib 7 until a first alpha or beta release is available. Evidently, testing branch will never be stable. Please use it with care. The commits to testing branch will be "per bug" or "new feature". The commits to trunk will be batched, usually by one or two weeks and only after the changes have been in testing branch for at least one week. A new feature for you is that you are able to track the changelog via FishEye (http://fisheye2.atlassian.com/changelog/zeos).

So what is planned for ZeosLib 7? At first we decided to drop old compilers and older database support to thin out the packages and code. That means ZeosLib 7 will then support the following IDEs:

  • Delphi 7 to Delphi 2009
  • FPC/Lazarus
  • MSEide and MSEgui (supported by Martin Schreiber)

... and the following databases/protocols:

  • ADO
  • Mysql 4.1 to 6.0,
  • Interbase 5 / 6
  • Firebird 1.0 to 2.1
  • Postgres 7 to 8
  • SQLite 2.8 to 3

The features that we have planned for ZeosLib 7 are the following:

  • Prepared Statement support (prepare once and execute it multiple times)
  • An event alerter for databases that support this feature (e.g. Postgre), based on the current TZIBEventAlerter.
  • Extending the property editors to make them more comfortable to use

So that was quite a lot of information about our future plans. We hope you will stick to us and accompany us the way towards ZeosLib 7 and beyond.

Best Regards!

Your ZeosLib Developement Team.

ZEOSLib 6.6.3 - stable is out now
Posted 08.08.2008, 06:37 by Michael
Ankündigungen Dear ZEOS Community,

today we are proud to officially announce the release of the

ZEOS DBO Library 6.6.3 - stable

It took a very long time and the hard work of at least a small group of people who decieded in August 2005 to continue with the ZEOS Database Objects Libray to provide support to the community and try to develop the next stable version. Since the withdraw of the founders of the ZEOS Libary the future of the project was not quite clear. But with the support of a quite fast growing user community and their contributions to the project we kept it alive ... and are stable, again!

The Development Team wants to thank all of you very much for supplying us with your feedback, ideas and contributions and also patches and bugfixes.

Our special and biggest thank goes to Mark Daems who spends a huge part of his spare time to push the project forward. Without his enthusiasm and the great work he is doing we would not have a stable version at all. So:

Thank you very much, Mark Thumbup

Also a great "thank you" goes to Helmut Hartl for his work in the Development Team and for hosting our forum and download-section.

But now the download links to our latest stable release:
This download is also available from our forum download section and from sourceforge.

With best Regards!

Your ZEOSLib Development Team.

Knowledge Base Article Restore
Posted 26.03.2008, 14:37 by Michael
Ankündigungen Dear ZEOS Community,

as you read in the latest announcement of mdaems we had to update our forum software. Accidentally we lost all our KB articles. We fortunately could restore them and so they are available in the Knowledge Base, again.

Looks like the Forum software upgrade was worth the effort
Posted 06.03.2008, 01:40 by mdaems
Ankündigungen As you might have noticed, we did an upgrade of the forum software.
Not because we like the new version, but because we were forced by hackers to do so.

Now the new version is running since 2 weeks, and we're happy about it. Spam removal isn't a big job any more. And dummy registrations (to post some mad Url's as user web page) are almost completely over.

There are also some (minor) disadvantages to the new situation.
  • Syntax highlighting doesn't work any longer.
  • The spam blocker is very sensitive. We like this as it's all about making errors on the safe side. If you have trouble when trying to post/change something, please let us know. If you provide a repeatable case this kind of trouble is solved easily. Please log a fault report in the bugtracker.

On the other hand, there are also some advantages to the upgrade.
  • The Knowledge Base is available again. If you want to post some articles concerning the use of the zeoslib components, now you can. For the moment there's only the General Category available. If you want to write some database or OS dependent documentation, please let us know the specifics, so we can add the necessary additional categories/document types.
  • The downloads section works again
  • The links section works again.

New documentation subproject started
Posted 26.06.2007, 01:00 by mdaems
Ankündigungen Hi to all of you!

We are proud to announce a new zeoslib documentation project has been started by bravecobra.

As (almost) nobody knew how to extract the inline documentation from the sources we tried to run the Doxygen doxumentation generator on our sources and the result was looked quite good 'out of the box'.

Just give it a look here :
zeoslib full sourcecode
zeoslib components

More information about what doxygen is and how it could be used can be found here:
Guidelines

Please have a look at it and tell us what you think about it in the newly opened 'Documentations forum.

As we want everyone to be able to experiment with and contribute at the documentation we just committed the first doxygen oriented files (config and readme) to the documentations directory of SVN testing branch. So feel free to use it and help us to extend the information available.
